I personally find that it depends mostly on the type of shoe you wear when you bock. If you use thing running shoes then you will want a more bulky binding.
On the other hand, if you wear bulky shoes like boots or something then you might prefer a slimmer binding.
I personally have no problems with the advanced bindings but the standard ones did not feel as reliable.
A long time ago there were a few models which came with skinnt nylon bindings which took some time to get used too, especially with pivoting footplates on
